Abstract:
The paper gives information about an archaeological experiment which helped to repair and operate an original large-scale lime kiln from the High Medieval Period in 2014. The object of the research was a six-channel semi-stable kiln that was examined in advance by archaeologists of the Ústav archeologické památkové péče Brno (Brno Institute of Archaeology) in the area of Mokrá quarry in the southern part of the Moravian Karst. The purpose of this large-scale experiment was to show and verify the long-forgotten technology which could be applied to operate these pyro-technological devices commonly built near medieval towns and castles in the wider Central European region.
