Abstract:
The early medieval sword, which is deposited in the collections of the Central Bohemian Museum in Roztoky u Prahy, is being associated with the stronghold of Levý Hradec, although its find-circumstances are not known. The weapon has hilt of the Petersen type Y, and already previous X-ray survey revealed pattern welding of the blade and the presence of an iron inlay. Newly conducted survey by means of X-ray computed tomography allowed more detailed specification of the surface pattern welding, and – mainly – of the inlay. It has been found that the blade bears pattern-welded inscription „(ABO) FECIT“ on one side, and a composed geometric pattern on the other side. All the newly acquired pieces of information are described and further discussed in detail.
