Abstract:
An object serving as clay pit was found near the medieval lime kiln at Castle Pyšolec. It was used for extracting of the material, from which the furnace was clogging during the burning of crystalline limestone. This assumption was confirmed by X-ray diffractometric analysis and physicochemical method, which enable to identify minerals according to their crystal structures. The samples of clayey sand material were taken from the structure and after that they were compared with samples of overburned material from a pit heap at the edge of the kiln. Their composition is almost identical, so the connection between the lime furnace and mining pit is evident.
